Media is highlighting two stories about immigrants killing people, so I wanted to remind everyone you're more likely to be killed by an acquaintance than a stranger.

    [CW: Gender violence]

I dunno if these stats are right… How are you more likely to be killed by your wife than your husband? Domestic murder is overwhelmingly men killing women…

I may be misreading the statistics, but shouldn’t “relationship of victim to offender” imply that the Wife category denotes 563 wives of killers?? I don’t know if the chart got something turned around somewhere.

Well you say that, but your name is Dirt_Owl not Dumb_Owl so jot that down. To quote the chart

12 people were murdered by their employer

3,527 people were killed by an acquaintance compared to 1,674 who were killed by a stranger.

so the bar titles denote the killer not the victim. I’m confused cat-confused

                relationship of victim to offender

yes, which means the victim is (employer of) offender. the offender killed their employer.

Which makes sense, yes. I’m saying, since the start of the thread, that the chart title, the bar labels, and the text on the statista page are conflicting with each other which makes the whole thing look unprofessional.

Searching around, I’m mostly seeing 3 Mariticides for every 4 Uxoricides, so it’s a curious discrepancy. Some places have different ratios though.
