    ???

    more info if real plz

I mostly find AfCFTA “African Continental Free Trade Area”. I haven’t updated my analysis in 20 years but “free” followed by “trade” instantly make alarm bells go off.

I think it’s an AI slop article. The same writer has supposedly written another 4 articles in the last 3 hours…

My guess is the protocol is hallucinated from merging “Africa digital trade protocol” and “African disability protocol” then proceeding to go on about search indexing by pulling from articles about the already pre-existing African search engines competing with Google which is not really directly related to the CIX nor does it even make sense to be called a protocol.

Also while this does reduce western control of Africa’s internet access it’s worth noting that western companies are invested in it including Meta and Starlink.

        Thanks that completely makes sense.

On the more reality-based stuff I found I noticed Luxembourg being mentioned a lot which was a bit… “hmm”

@yogthos@lemmygrad.ml I appreciate your bulk of interesting content and you’re obviously trawling around to find us the good stuff but is there some way to integrate this critique? I understand that with volume comes risk. ⚖️

I found this, but it’s from 2016, could be not really covered in English media https://au.int/sites/default/files/documents/32509-doc-axis-brochure_pida_-january_2017.pdf

I honestly find it fascinating how there’s been basically zero coverage of this in the west given that it’s been in development for like a decade now.

this list goes back to the 90s.

i’m having a hard time understanding if this is a new technology (which is kind of implied by calling it a “protocol”) or a really large intranet?

I don’t know what to think of this source: https://eurweb.com/2025/africa-just-built-its-own-internet-and-its-a-nightmare-for-google-and-the-west-watch/

      1. Which “african political pigs” are you referring to?
      2. Why did you choose that wording?
      3. Are you suggesting that African countries and their people should be subjected to financial and technological colonialism rather than develop and use their own solutions?
      4. Do you think money laundering is a more pressing problem for Africans than western control over their resources?
      5. This appears to be an AI written article so what it’s talking about may not even be real.
