OK I have been to meaning to ask: What does any of this have to do with Nethack? I really don’t understand any of these YASD posts. YASD is typically something like “I was overburdened while descending while wielding a cockatrice corpse and fell down the stairs and the cockatrice corpse hit me and petrified me” or “I zapped myself with a wand to test it and it was a wand of death” or “I read a scroll of teleportation without curse-testing it and it took me down to the Castle when I was level 2, where a black dragon promptly disintegrated me.”. But the couple YASD posts I’ve seen here don’t even look related to Nethack at all! I thought I’d figure it out from context clues but I’m not seeing a theme uniting the posts either.

I haven’t played nethack in a long time, the roguelike I’ve played off and on for years is dungeon crawl stone soup. I’ve never won, and right now I don’t have a keyboard with a numpad so I haven’t played for a while, but I would say most of my deaths are YASDs from tabbing too aggressively, or entering the elven halls. For some reason I’m always tempted to just peek in the elven halls and it never works out. I don’t even think there’s any good loot in there, and there’s definitely no rune.
shout out to rogue survivor which is a severely underrated zombie survival roguelike, probably my second favourite!
