This is why no one trusts Democrats. The constant triangulation leaves them in this space where you can never tell which side of their mouth is the one saying what they really believe. So whenever they say anything, it always feels like they’re hiding something.

They’re also just as susceptible to the arguments Republicans make, so long as Democrats make them

“Oh border security” is an argument they used to viciously mock

Suddenly, it’s an ‘issue’? Is it really, or did the political party you lie down with decide they were going to stop fighting it?

yes they implemented Romneycare instead of universal Healthcare/medicaid for all but that’s only because it was the best they could do in a short period of time

Or from the dnc, we will have the most lethal military ever!

        triangulation

It has other meanings, but In politics, it’s when a politician adopts some aspects of the opposing party’s stance on an issue in an attempt to shield themselves from political attacks on that issue.

The entire “triangulation” political strategy is credited to Clinton’s presidency and specifically refers to Dems trying to appear above the fray as enlightened centrists by kicking the left and accepting the right’s framing on issues to “get things done” and prevent rhetorical attacks from the right. That’s how we ended up with the Dems passing huge right wing legislation like NATFA, the crime bill, gutting welfare, right wing private insurance reform, etc. It’s a stupid tactic because the GOP will call them demonic commies even if they sponsor GOP bills themselves.

That’s what the Dems became after the DLC party reforms in the 90s and they’ve spent more than two decades capitulating and pre-negotiating with themselves. Dem leadership is all from that era which is why you get people like Pelosi et al saying they want a strong GOP or whatever.

IIRC I think one of the Chapos said that the Biden/Harris admin embracing “tough on immigration” policies looked to a casual observer like the Dems got caught doing what the Republicans are accusing them of (bringing in illegals to steal jobs and vote for the Dems) and are trying to backtrack in a panic. Why else would they be crying about Orange Hitler’s policies in 2020 and then rushing to “close down the Southern Border if the Dem immigration bill is passed” in 2023?!

They were betting on voters not having any memory beyond like 2 weeks ago, maybe 2 months at best. If they think everyone only cares about the current news cycle than consistency doesn’t matter at all, its all about the appearance of caring about [insert random current issue here] while doing zero to actualy address it in the long term.

In general it is successful as political strategy most of the time as they can control the media in the first place etc…

Yeah the border was a mess because, instead of just letting people through, you insisted on shooting each other and yourselves in the head and feet. Some of you even drowned while trying to drown other people.

I’m actually 100% serious. The people sent to guard the border weren’t the best and there were multiple firearm accidents involving US troops shooting each other or themselves. One guy was spinning a pistol in his hand wild west style when he accidentally set it off.

Sexually objectifying a stranger because you like their tweets, what the fuck.

What’s wild is how this is very upvoted, but let’s say it was a woman who made a tweet and someone commented that they would go down on her for her service. That would get removed and certainly no one would just fucking let it pass. Gross as hell.

CW: Sex topics and gender norms i guess?

My uneducated opinion is that when men do that to women online there is an unstated threat of force. Especially taking into account the mainstream (misogynist) narrative that sex is something men do TO women and not WITH women. So to me it seems like flipping the genders is not strictly an actual parallel between the two situations.

All that said, i honestly also believe that thirst comments should be stricken down by the volcel police. On the other hand, I do feel somewhat obligated to support womens rights and wrongs, including weird internet comments that are not made in good taste

However this fails to address any type of intersectionality. Because white women sexually objectify men of colour as a historical weapon of oppression. Able-bodied people sexually objectify disabled men as a historical weapon of oppression. To say that sexually objectifying strangers is okay as long as they meet x-y-z criteria is absolutely ridiculous. Just poor taste misogyny masquerading as “feminism” because it’s being done to men now. The same nonsense as girlboss feminism or whatever.

ALSO completely ignores that men can be (and are) victims of sexual harassment and assault, and you are potentially sexually objectifying someone who has survived such experiences. This also fuels the attitude that men are always perpetrators and thus cannot be victims, which makes a really toxic environment that alienates men who have been survivors who feel they are not taken seriously because they, as men, are inherently unable to be objectified and aggressed upon. Really icky behaviour to excuse with jokes

EDIT: and don’t get me started on how inappropriate it would be to say shit like this about an asexual person who is sex averse

STOP OBJECTIFYING PEOPLE, it’s chud behaviour no matter the reason or direction
