It goes further back than even that, almost the whole of SoCal was aligned with the South during the lead up to the civil war and the only reason the state didn’t split in two is cause the rest of the state was already prepared to stop it. Then after the civil war a bunch of folks returned but we’re politically and socially countered by generally egalitarian Scots-Irish and Germans from Appalachia and the Great lakes regions. This caused fighting though it didn’t last long because the Mormons started moving in at high numbers, which pissed basically every not Mormon off resulting in the fighting going cold more or less because Mormon bad.

You only really start seeing the racism becoming a problem again around when the first generation of Hells Angels pops up, which probably was from general migratory factors from the South. Regardless the Inland Empire is basically a coin flip on what you’ll get, could be the single most racist person alive or it could be someone so egalitarian in their thinking that John Browns ghost is telling them to chill it just a bit.

They were founded in 1948, generation one of the hells Angels were WW2 vets. They did swell up in numbers during and after Vietnam but they were pretty old already by that point.

Sure but the timescale does matter, while there were racist shitbags in the Inland Empire before hand they were generally of the mind your own business variety. The only real exception I know of was the resurgence of the KKK back in the 1910s and 1920s, where it spooked my 2x great grandfather enough to buy guns for his black workers or anyone who wanted one.

word… but the main point is there’s a lot more racist shitbags in california than most people would think.
we have this reputation as super leftist but go few miles away from the coast and it’s desert alabama….

Preaching to the choir on that one, I grew up round them hell I’m related to them. For anyone who grew up in California this isn’t an unknown especially if they’ve traveled around a bit. Most racist shit I’ve ever heard was out in Victorville. But yeah the only reason that they are somewhat forgotten about is because they’ve been beaten over the head for long enough that it takes a large scale resurgence for it to matter.

did you know the Kern County PD used to sew little cloth bloody patches onto a plush baby seal as a reward to the most brutal police officer each year?
good times… i didn’t grow up in california but i lived the majority of my life on the west coast

Ya know every time I hear about fucken Kern county it’s some new type of fucked up that makes me proud to be from San Bernardino. Seriously why fucken do that?! It’s a comical level of evil that even 1980s star scream would find over the top. Like sure SBSD ain’t all that much better but at least they aren’t over the top about it.
