    Imagine drawing on a globe instead of drawing on a map. Now if you take any point on the globe and head “west” while remaining (roughly) equidistant to the north pole, the north pole will remain north, not north-east from your position no matter how far west you go.

    Edit: Others already explained it, I just saw the dunking before I typed my message.
