For some parents, the arrival of the new childcare scheme will actually leave them worse off as many childcare providers have hiked childcare costs

So that pushes prices up more. What now?

We have. Hence the current expense of childcare. You could increase taxes to subsidise costs. But there are quite a few other services - health, education, adult and child social services also crying out for those funds.

And the lack of those other things exacerbates this one. It’s all the same problem, with the same solution.

“Increase taxes substantially” as a one-size fits all solution always feels a bit unimaginative

Governments have a magical income source called “taxes”. Weird, I know.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think “reputable news source” needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
