https://piped.video/ automatically linked to my music post (started c/ListenParty a bit earlier) - what is it? It’s not loading, as far as I can tell. https://piefed.social/c/listenparty/p/1462454/who-is-william-onyeabor

Thanks, as always, in advance, for input

Edit:

So, I pulled the link directly from youtube and am not sure what’s going on here…

I’m noticing it’s not the link I’m posting so this is all just weird I guess?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=583ktuqspKE&list=PL-Ko9nsGotG74zz9PMg9IGM66eoKbygrV isn’t https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=583ktuqspKE ? It’s a yt playlist link, might be part of the issue. How is it (changed link, piped link added) getting into my post is my question.

    piped.video has been broken for a long time, I don’t think it’s coming back.

    If anyone has an alternative privacy-preserving youtube frontend to suggest, I’d love to hear it. I haven’t had time to research.

      There aren’t any. And likely won’t be any. Because Google doesn’t want there to be any. And they go to great lengths to break them on a regular basis. If only they could extend the same resources to their moderation…

      I would recommend removing the piped.video integration completely for two reasons.

      1. Someone (I think maybe blaze@piefed.zip? who knows) said that naked YouTube URLs are better because phones can be set up to open directly in NewPipe. In fact that is how my phone is set up right now. Desktops can do the same with intents probably.

      2. Ease of maintenance burden.

        @rimu@piefed.social

        Interesting. Ok, gotcha, mark it resolved, please [I’ve marked it resolved] and thanks to all y’all. I’m not sure if I’ve tried to post video before but it auto-populated, is how I believe you guys might describe it?

      I think yewtu.be (Individous) and for example https://lt.epicsite.xyz/ (Liberatube) still work, at least as of now. I’ve not seen any working, public Piped instances in a while. And that’s pretty much the alternative webfrontends I’m aware of. But I know from tinkering with Peertube and yt-dlp how difficult it is to access the videos in non-standard ways. Youtube has some countermeasures in place and they’ll regularly come up with ways to make it yet more difficult. So, overall it’s not looking good for quite some time now.

          Sorry, that was in response to if anyone knows alternative youtube frontends, not really aimed at your original question. You probably just entered a youtube url. And piefed just goes ahead and matches all the links that start with youtube.com and adds this additional link to a privacy-respecting service… which unfortunately doesn’t work… But PieFed does this entirely automatically, and I believe to all links. I don’t think there’s anything for the user to change here. But PieFed should offer features which actually work, so me might want to deal with this in one form or another.

            No need to apologize. I replied to the wrong comment. Ha, but your answer helps a lot. That makes sense. Thank you.
