  • I couldn’t stand him when I was growing up. He’s actually my step dad, but I’ve known him since I was like five. He is a blue collar, salt of the earth type and was moderately conservative by today’s standards when I was growing up. When my worldview was limited, I saw him as some sort of redneck workaholic guy who would come home angry every day. We always tried to steer clear of him when he was home because if we got in his eye line, he would find some crazy projects for us kids to go work on. Usually involving crazy manual labor that kids shouldn’t have been doing. But that’s how he grew up.

As I got older and got a job and responsibilities of my own, I realized he was just doing his best and had a lot on his plate. He was never physically abusive towards us, but I was still a little afraid of him when I was young. I grew up in a family with no other kids until I was 8. And I mean no other kids. I have no cousins or anything. I was raised by a bunch of older Midwestern Catholic ladies. I think my dad took it up on himself to “man me up” which I resisted at every turn. I’m glad he taught me about fixing things and helping others though. I’ve saved so much money with the DIY mentality he gave me. He’s devoted to his family and to this day will drop everything to help just about anyone. He’s not perfect, but I’m super thankful he was and is in my life. We still don’t really see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, but in a lot of ways I turned into him. It’s a strong case for nurture in the nature/nurture debate.

  • One time I was at a restaurant with my wife and we could overhear the young couple behind us. This was during the first trump election. He was obviously on a first date with this girl and he tried to impress her by saying stuff like “yeah, I vote for the guy with the most American sounding name”. She was not impressed to say the least.

I always have good luck watching people on dates at restaurants.

  • This is the only way this could be. It has to be that religion is real. Trump isn’t playing 24D Ticket To Ride or whatever. He’s also not Agent Krasnov. If there was a plan, the evidence points toward destroying the US economy and handing hegemony to China. But he’s not doing that. At least not on purpose. I just don’t get why libs think trump is destroying America on the behest of the Russians. If he is, he’s doing a terrible job of handing them the reins.

  • Wife and I were renting a trailer in a trailer park some years back and one night we were getting intimate. Well, we were just about to get to the good part when all of a sudden our whole room is illuminated by a flood light and we hear someone shouting outside. Begrudgingly I get dressed and look out the window. There’s a man with a flashlight looking in windows and banging on doors at my neighbors place yelling a woman’s name.

I called the police because it seemed like someone trying to cause trouble. The police informed me that the man was the police and he was serving a warrant for the neighbor.

I couldn’t believe how shitty they were being about it, waking up the whole neighborhood. She was a mess though. Another time I was leaving for work in the morning and I hear her tearing into her boyfriend/husband or whatever. She chased him out into the street with a baby in a car seat and left the baby in the road while she chased his car down the road. I sat and waited to make sure she didn’t just leave the baby and then went to work. Reported her that time too.

I’m sure I’ve had worse “fails” but I’ve been with my wife for ten years now and I don’t really hold space in my brain for past relationships

  • Not to be all negative, but we are back to square one. Nothing meaningful will happen in the movement in our lifetime. All we can do is try to get people to see it our way and then maybe when we’re old, they’ll come cut our heads off with broadswords because they perceive what we have going on as “too right wing”.

I’d love to be taken out in a revolution by some whippersnappers who think I’m The Man™

  • In all cases a gun would get you killed. Hell, even having a registered firearm could lead the state to kick your door in, guns drawn when they come and arrest you for retweeting a Macklemore post about “free Palestine”. All it takes is one trigger happy douche to come in guns blazing because they were big scared of a 20 year old Palestinian on a green card who rides a fixie to campus

At this point shooting back without some sort of organization would lead to real life five stars in GTA
