Marine heatwaves can have severe impact on corals populations. This study demonstrates that selective breeding could quickly enhance coral tolerance to short-term heat stress by up to 1 °C. This has potential to mitigate some impacts of climate change, however urgent climate action is still needed.

We should work on trying to stop doing the things that are destroying our oceans maybe first. Just a thought.

Agreed. Sadly though I think we are heading for 2.4c heating, and we also need to prepare for emergency responses.

Easier said than done. Sometimes you’re just going to get hit, and all you can decide is how hard it lands.

We need to lower our greenhouse gas emissions. And we need to do everything we can to mitigate the effect of climate change.

    So yes.

That will help, but the acidification of the ocean will cause the shells of certain creatures to dissolve.. Hopefully we can correct it before we get to this point, but it isn’t looking promising.

We both need to lower greenhouse emissions and breed these more resistant coral
