Mastodon is another beast, that’s like twitter-- and twitter does not know about threaded discussion.
Kbin is functionally a lemmy alternative.
The previous delay was below 2 min (not instant), that is good enough.
Subscribing to communities on other fediverse sites (instances) is relatively straightforward, but not intuitive.
Paste their address in the format !community@site.com into the search bar here - click on the result returned, now when you get back to the site, you should see a “Join” button you can click.

Maybe let people know that Lemmy doesn’t work very well with Mastodon? A lot of people use it.
