Already Germany and other European countries are having to increase defense spending which means budgets being squeezed elsewhere.
There are also scientists moving out of the US to places with less anti intellectual tendencies like Germany. That means more competition for funding in Germany.
Just because there’s no direct effects doesn’t mean there are no effects.
That’s what I was saying by “no primary effects”. I’m not saying that an attack on academia in the US is not an attack on academia everywhere. I’m just saying that the comment seemed to presume that all research everywhere is primarily funded by the US.
Well, I doubt Bavarian academia would be supported by a US agency or primarily affected by the US government implosion.
