    reciprocal tariffs

So is the party line here that these are just a reaction to other countries’ tariffs and that if those tariffs are removed the US ones will be too? I have no doubt that they’re lying and calling things “tariffs” that really aren’t that, but if that’s the logic then this move makes marginally more sense.

edit: okay I saw the thing where they decided tariffs are when you have a trade deficit and that is fucking hilarious. Does Don really expect other countries to start buying American shit? Our stuff is obscenely overpriced at the global level! The only way that happens is if he intentionally weakens the dollar, and if he does that we can’t import anything anymore.

Like what? Deere, Peterbuilt, Snap On, and tons of American fabricators and manufacturers make quality products. Same for Apple and even Microsoft. Tho they manufacture out of the US. But it is designed here.

Deere that lock buyers to using them for “software updates”? Trash.

Peterbilt? Oversized US oriented trucks that are useless outside of the US? Trash.

Snap-On? Overpriced tools surpassed by numerous manufacturers outside of the US. Trash.

US based tech multinationals don’t make anything except monopolies. They buy smaller outfits that have created something, they don’t create anything themselves. They do all of this while avoiding paying tax everywhere, and taking subsidies for anything and everything.

TL;DR Fuck the US, the horse it rode in on, and the mountain it rode round to get here.

USian wages are inflated by Imperialism, which is why US manufactured goods are usually more expensive for equal quality elsewhere. Design isn’t the issue, it’s the cost of production and manufacturing.

are they designed here? Because with the proliferation of market-based supply chains even the designing is outsourced to the lowest bidder. The only thing that “exists” within the united States is our (the bourgeoisie’s) capital and intellectual property.

My uncle fabricated for Microsoft back during the Zune. It’s designed by Americans. Produced in China. And that’s why you support American auto companies. They employ American engineers to design everything. I mean it’s not perfect but at least supporting US companies keeps the R&D here.

You are aware that Americans. Not our government are some of the most charitable bunch of people on earth. We’re not all so bad. Just enough voters were misguided.

‘Some of the most charitable people on earth’ (citation needed) are massive genocidal adult children. They overwhelmingly supported invading Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Vietnam, Korea, Palestine. They even venerate people who participate in those actions as soldiers, i.e. in the most direct way possible.

These people are not ‘misguided’. They are bloodthirsty monsters who deny their crimes.

The rhetoric of “supporting” companies that are rooted in the pursuit of profit and typically are only a few degrees removed from outright subsidizing right-wing terror across the globe is hilarious

Snap on hasn’t been quality for a while. What keeps them around is the lifetime warranty and direct to shop sales trucks that can replace the frequently broken tools on the spot.

I knew someone would bring up this valid point. But yes the benefit of Snappy is you can always get it replaced. As long as you have a truck showing up.
