President Donald Trump issued a “striking” national security memo recently that would allow the administration to go after American citizens using the same tools the country uses to protect itself from foreign adversaries, according to one analyst.

Ryan Goodman, a national security expert and law professor at New York University, discussed the recent memo, called NSPM7, on a recent episode of “The Bulwark Live” with Bill Kristol, the outlet’s editor-at-large. Goodman was visibly stunned as he recalled some of the impacts Trump’s memo could have on American citizens.

“It’s using the national security apparatus in such a way that’s focused domestically; one can only assume that Steven Miller is empowered by this,” Goodman said. “It’s connecting it up with national security frameworks and then imposing it domestically.”

The directive calls on the National Security apparatus to go after anti-fascist groups on the left. It also calls on law enforcement to “[investigate] all participants in these criminal and terroristic conspiracies — including the organized structures, networks, entities, organizations, funding sources, and predicate actions behind them.”

Goodman argued that the language sounded too familiar.

“I have to assume that [Miller] wrote a large part of it,” Goodman said. “I mean, it just looks like it comes out of his mind in a certain sense and his rhetoric around this.”

There’s something fundamentally irksome about Stephen Miller that I don’t even get with other members of this braindead authoritarian Administration. Something about the combination of his “you must do what I say” demeanor while having no competent skill at anything what so ever. Except maybe saying the right things in front of the boss. He’s good at that.

Which can be said of a lot people in this Admin, so I’m not sure why Miller bugs me above the others. Maybe he’s just louder about saying it. He is fundamentally small as a person, and it’s easy to detect.

The real reason he wants to recreate the reign of terror is because he’s secretly hoping wigs become trendy again

No more dealing with hair in a can. No more painful razor bumps. Just lots of authoritarianism and unregulated wig powder full of lead.

Probably a really great illustration as to why we shouldn’t permit this to be used domestically with pure Executive Branch discretion.

The Church Committee pulled domestic surveillance out of the CIA baliwick for similar reasons.

Sounds like something to go on the list of things that need some future restrictions to be imposed.

All that is required to adhere to the constitution is that the recipients of said memo do no such thing.

If they take action on this memo, they make themselves treasonous domestic enemies.

    Sound logical?

Yes, except the incentives are turned upside down by the current regime. Those who act on the memo will be traitors by the standards of all previous administrations, but under this regime they’ll be the ones who keep their jobs. To adhere to the constitution makes you a patriot by all previous administrations’ standards but under this administration it opens you up to persecution by weaponized federal agencies, including the ones that kidnap people for the camps. Nazis will not be stopped by the letter of the law.

Wow, I’m so surprised. And nobody saw this coming…

    Buh-bye mid-terms.

Buh-bye Republic. See you in 10 years when the regime collapses.

Don’t give up in advance. All they did is write on a piece of paper “I’m allowed to go after my political enemies”

Yes, it’s very worrying, but they were doing this already!

It’s not over until they get the military on board (and they are not at all on board currently), and even then it’s not over until they stabilize their rule

They don’t need the military. They have the ICE Gestapo-style paramilitary.

As for giving up, I gave up on the United States 25 years ago when I gave up my citizenship, after Dubya shat out the very fascist USA Patriot Act.

This country is hopeless, and it’s been hopeless for a very long time.

The Gestapo wouldn’t have stood a chance against the Wehrmacht either, yet they terrorized Germany for 12 long years.

Well, yeah, because the Wehrmacht didn’t engage the Gestapo in battle. There’s a slim chance that history won’t repeat itself here.

And just like the Wehrmacht, the US military won’t lift a finger to stop the ICE thugs because they’re brainwashed into obeying blindly, like the dumb servile robots they are.

Buh-bye Republic. See you in 10 years when the regime collapses.

If we’re lucky. Mussolini was in power for over twice that and in Brazil they had various fascist dictators and military rule for almost 60 years.

The pivotal event will probably be when the Mango Mussolini dies, which will hopefully happen soon one way or the other.

If they manage to hold onto power without the benefit of his cult of personality or to transfer it onto a new Dear Leader, it could take several decades and/or a world war to get rid of them.
