    That’s a silly title.

The sun doesn’t produce a lot of energy because it is hot. The sun produces energy because it is big. All functional experimental fusion reactors operate at much higher temperatures than the sun.

It’s a straight up factually incorrect title. Heat is a measure of energy. The sun produces 3.9e26 joules of heat per second. So no, they did not surpass the heat of the sun.

Nah, that’s a nitpick. In common English heat is just presence of high temperatures, and there’s no specific word for thermal energy.

Also, that would be heat/time, so power basically. The sum of all heat currently in the sun would be larger, considering how slow the convection is among other things.

We’re talking about energy generation, so the distinction is pretty important. I think a layperson can understand that it takes far more heat to boil a pot of water than a match can produce, even if the match is at a higher temperature than the stove top.

A layperson would describe the heat of a campfire as being much higher than the heat of a candle, even if theyre the same temperature.

Yeah, I guess that’s fair. They’re definitely talking about temperature, and I think most would understand it that way, because the layman might not even know the connection between higher temperatures and better heat engines, but economically speaking it’s not super relevant. The actual power output is probably negligible; it’s a research machine.

Heat in terms of temperature is a measure of molecular kinetic energy, so you can say two things are the same temperature regardless of the total energy of the system, which is a function of the change in temperature, mass and specific heat of a substance.

Raging hot take on Lemmy, but yeah, agreed. He was a bastard to get the money. All that money is going to, like, starving African kids, though. If I was him I’d do the same shit and sleep like a baby.

Meanwhile, Bezos builds dick rockets and nobody complains, because he keeps out of the headlines.

          Bezos wants to play dragon

Gates is definitely a good human, but nobody is without flaws. Bezos however wants to be evil. And then there is Musk, thinking he does good but actually is a clown that only causes inconveniences for everyone.

There’s ~2000 confirmed billionares on Earth. Some do philanthropy, some do evil, but most just enjoy being comically rich, like Jeff.

Honestly that sounds about like what the people I know would do. This is because it’s all random chance, and they are an average group of people.

Id say its still import how they got so rich, oil people for example are definitely on the evil scale. And thats the more important part, when when you get rich by destroying the world and using literal slave labor you are definitely evil. And this type of billionaire is more common than the good people.

Well, sure, not in the ~2000 are guys like Putin or the Saudi royals. We all know they have way more than just a billion, but we can’t prove it. Then again, there’s a lot of mean people who are still poor. I’ve met some.

The math is sound. I’m always linking that thing because more people need to know.

They are just humans like everyone else. Gates got rich without much abuse or problematic things, yeah his mom helped but when you have connections, you use them.

He definitely did more good than bad. And this whole shit about saying everyone from XY group is evil is just idiotic.

So every other company in that position did or would do. Shure its not ok, but the point still stands, more good than bad.

Btw, nowadays Microsoft contributes to FOSS projects.

High probability OP would take a billion dollars, and still think themselves good. Lower than 50% that they would give it all away.

Tbh, most humans on this planet would push a button saying “kill 10k random people and get 10 billion in gold” and they wouldn’t even feel remorse. Gates definitely didn’t kill 10k people.

Lower than 50%? Id say lower than 0,1% no sane individual would do that, you would have to be pretty stupid.

I mean, Gates is working on it. and Chuck Feeney did it in one shot. It would normally be significantly lower than 50%, but I gave OP the benefit of the doubt given their stated opinion of the wealthy.

Hes “grants” are usually turned down because you know billionsires want any good things that might come out of it for themselves, so there are so many strings attached you just give any found thing to billy gates. So “good”.

Prove that. Like actually prove that. No billionaire is innocent. No billionaire gets where they are without stepping on necks to do so.
