The big news here is if it’s considered parve, Jews who keep kosher can eat it with butter or cheese.

Don’t they just look for loopholes anyway?

Like being “inside” a wire or not pushing buttons so someone else does it.

I’m sure any loophole people will take it

Oh interesting. What do you think about Muslims ? Would they be able to eat any and all cultured meat ?

      Vegetarians and vegans too ?

      Might be interesting.

      What is cost.

I know less about what is considered halal or haram, but Muslims have no restrictions on meat and dairy being mixed though.

If they could make bacon though…… I think there’s a decent chance you could rightly argue it isn’t from a pig.

Similarly if Jews consider this to be parve (a vegetable), then presumably a cultured bacon or pig product would also be kosher. And they can finally realize the dream of a kosher bacon cheeseburger.

Cultured meat is going to be a genuine game changer.

Most people don’t realise how much environmental damage meat does to the world. I can’t wait for huge forest regrowth.

I’m hoping this gets cheap and comes along with robotic cooking. I want restaurants to be so cheap I never have to cook again.

Honestly a general replacements community might be more sustainable. It would get my sub.

What do you mean by a general replacements community? Cellular agriculture in general, rather than just meat?

Might be a good idea. Do you think your instance would be a good place for the community?

Yeah, actually I’ll just make one, assuming I don’t find an old one.

Other cellular types for sure. I’m super pumped about the bacterial protein that grows on just synthetic hydrogen. What do you think about plant based substitutes? It’s a different technology, and I don’t know how much there is to say even at this point, but they fill the same product niche.

Let me know if you do; I’ll definitely sub. Not sure if I’ll have time to post content, but I’d probably be able to monitor for spam if you need help modding.

Eh, it varies. The Beyond burgers are pretty good, but I had some plant-based “meatballs” which were… not great. Haven’t seen any plant-based steaks yet. I’m hoping that animal cell-based methods can be indistinguishable from slaughtered meat, with lower environmental and ethical costs.

I meant as an included topic for the new community, lol. But yeah, some are pretty gross. They used to all be gross before people like Beyond arrived.
