Yup. Drill and Ceremony isn’t really practiced once you get to your unit. It’s widely viewed as a silly waste of time. For change of command ceremonies we would get like two or three days of practice, and most of that was standing around in the heat praying someone locks their knees and passes out. Judging from r/army posts, a lot of guys had just the three days of practice. Add in how no one wants to be at a dog and pony show, and you get very sloppy marching. Sucks2suck tbh, they deserve worse.
It’s entertainment. It never stops being funny. It’s slapstick comedy that briefly breaks the monotony of hours of standing at attention or parade rest while the colonels and generals practice fellating themselves. Sometimes they fall face first. Sometimes they fall on the person in front or behind them and we get to see two people knocked on their ass. Sometimes they crumple straight to the ground. And after they pass out, we get to see medics scramble to drag their ass to the aid station. We struggle to hold laughter in. Then the fun is over and we’re back to fantasizing about the stage collapsing during the speeches.
The point is if you can’t maintain order and discipline marching down a fucking street in front of the president as a ceremonial projection of power how the fuck are you going to maintain order and discipline when you’re on a forced march in enemy territory with interrupted supplies
Like if the soldiers look like shit because “they don’t want to be there” imagine how they’re gonna look when they’re sent out on patrol from an FOB and every third run results in an IED casualty. You think they’re going to want to be there?
It frankly doesn’t fucking matter where they want to be what matters is where they’re ordered to be. This lack of discipline is an indictment of the soldiers but most of all the officers
Total disaster, no wonder these fucking bums got fucked up by goat herders despite being armed with the pinnacle of military technology.
Do you look at the pop and lock choreography of the Arlington cemetery ritual or the parades of the life guards of small European monarchies and think “Yup, those are transferable skill to the battlefield”?
There’s something to be said about being able to do something like that en masse - it shows a healthy training and organizational structure with discipline and morale, even if the sync-marching isn’t necessarily an important skill.
I fuckin love him for going back and not just remastering but fully re-recording his classic 90s tracks. It was such a wonderful surprise when I saw they were remastering the games.
Oh for sure. Pretty sure he just likes doing it since I believe he did some original music for the Twisted Insurrection and Mental Omega mods for RA2. I still blast all the old C&C OSTs when I’m playing any RTS to this day.
they cant march at all lmao

Why, what happens when someone locks their knees and passes out?

I always liked that picture of someone in the British Army collapsing, and everyone else just stands there.
They’re going to lose their minds saying that marching is gay DEI so of course they can’t do it
You know if we march in sync that’s ga— I mean, woke.
What if we marched together. Just kidding, unless.
choreography is something Theater Folk do
You mean synchronized gaying?
they march like they don’t want to be there
80 degrees with a dew point of 75
Maximum swamp ass conditions.
They’re drinking their air.
Damn, I thought Trump was supposed to have drained that thing.
the one time a wet bulb environment would be funny
The beta slouch walk vs the alpha juche goose step
Damn lol
Worse than the fucking boy scouts lmao
Compare and contrast (unironically love the seemingly value-neutral Hell March industrial complex on youtube that makes these montages of literally any army parade)
I don’t actually think that the PLA being parade trained is a point in their favor tbh. It’s silly no matter who does it.

Disaster
Timing and precision seem important skills, imo.

Yeah but those are like two dudes.

Look at how rarely European monarchs get assassinated these days though, it must be doing something
I look at replies that don’t care until they do.
What
Military parades can be cool and good IMO. The organization is very satisfying
Your opinion is not the same as mine and is therefore ontologically wrong.
spoiler
I’m just being silly. I don’t actually care enough about this subject to make a deal about it.
Grrr fuk u
no
Yes?
It’s not silly it’s literally the coolest thing ever
Frank Klepacki one of the GOATs. RTS doesn’t feel the same without the weird, industrofunk metal blasting.
He’s still got it.
