I watched the Trump parade stuff for ~5m. Fox was extremely careful and there wasn't a single shot of looking out at the crowd. The crowd must be very small. I wonder how many people are there.

Yup. Drill and Ceremony isn’t really practiced once you get to your unit. It’s widely viewed as a silly waste of time. For change of command ceremonies we would get like two or three days of practice, and most of that was standing around in the heat praying someone locks their knees and passes out. Judging from r/army posts, a lot of guys had just the three days of practice. Add in how no one wants to be at a dog and pony show, and you get very sloppy marching. Sucks2suck tbh, they deserve worse.

It’s entertainment. It never stops being funny. It’s slapstick comedy that briefly breaks the monotony of hours of standing at attention or parade rest while the colonels and generals practice fellating themselves. Sometimes they fall face first. Sometimes they fall on the person in front or behind them and we get to see two people knocked on their ass. Sometimes they crumple straight to the ground. And after they pass out, we get to see medics scramble to drag their ass to the aid station. We struggle to hold laughter in. Then the fun is over and we’re back to fantasizing about the stage collapsing during the speeches.

The point is if you can’t maintain order and discipline marching down a fucking street in front of the president as a ceremonial projection of power how the fuck are you going to maintain order and discipline when you’re on a forced march in enemy territory with interrupted supplies

Like if the soldiers look like shit because “they don’t want to be there” imagine how they’re gonna look when they’re sent out on patrol from an FOB and every third run results in an IED casualty. You think they’re going to want to be there?

It frankly doesn’t fucking matter where they want to be what matters is where they’re ordered to be. This lack of discipline is an indictment of the soldiers but most of all the officers

Total disaster, no wonder these fucking bums got fucked up by goat herders despite being armed with the pinnacle of military technology.

          Disaster

Yeah but those are like two dudes.

There’s something to be said about being able to do something like that en masse - it shows a healthy training and organizational structure with discipline and morale, even if the sync-marching isn’t necessarily an important skill.

I just watched a minute or two here and a minute or two there and I’m no marching expert but that was some very sloppy shit. Some of it was surely a lack of practice. But I think some of it was passive aggressive too. Trump hijacked their day in away soldiers who aren’t chuds were probably angry about.

Shit was (is?) boring as hell, it’s legitimately more entertaining to watch the washing machine go swish.

I don’t imagine the birthday boy is too happy about his special day getting overshadowed by Tel-Aviv eating shit, those dems in Minnesota getting clapped, and the lib protests.

Or the fact that his toy soldiers can’t march. Hopefully we get another “losers and suckers” quote out of this.

I don’t imagine the birthday boy is too happy about his special day getting overshadowed by Tel-Aviv eating shit,

This could end up being the biggest factor in whether or not Trump decides to join the war or not.

The entire thing is so weird to me - even for Trump. The two tanks in front of the stage are a chef’s kiss. They don’t look Strong and Powerful. They look like movie props made out of wood and plastic.

Circa 2002ish, you could find AK-47s for less than $5 because there were so many being plundered and sold during Balkanization.

Honestly the only people in the U.S. who can march are in marching bands. And they are pretty damn good and competitive about it in some areas. They genuinely would have been better off getting some Midwestern high schoolers and college students rifles and have them do the parade.

Trump must be pissed. Is anybody there?

Fox is doing camera tricks. There are rapid cuts. And the next cut starts with a zoom in so you see people on the street but only for a sec. I’m never seen cut after zoom in after cut after zoom in before.

By pure chance I started watching just a few minutes before Trump himself came to the stage. The footage was so controlled - it felt like I was watching a cheapie made-for-tv movie or something and for some reason they had to scrap the CGI crowd stuff they were going to use as quickie filler. There was no no crowd footage at all. The Hail to the Chief played, the president plus his wife came out, and they sat down. And that was it. On top of that - were the two tanks in front of the stage. Z-level set design.

Honestly they probably blocked off the entire area aside from a very small section for the public who had to go through security.

I don’t know how you could safely do a political parade in the US that was totally open to the public.
